The Public Meeting initiated by Levan Gogichaishvili on the problems of inclusive education

The Single Mandate MP for Constituency N6, Levan Gogichaishvili initiated the public meeting on the problems of inclusive education.

The Ministry of education supports 8 boarding-schools in the system within the endorsed program on “Facilitation to Special Schools for the Children with Special Educational Needs”. This was the issue along with the program events, needs of boarding-schools, including development of school infrastructure and other problems were discussed by the MPs, representatives of Education Ministry, Members of Tbilisi City Assembly, Principals of Boarding-Schools and the pedagogues.

L. Gogichaishvili, Deputy Education Minister Lia Gigauri, Chair of the Education Committee, Mariam Jashi, Single Mandate MPs: Beka Odisharia and Genadi Margvelashvili discussed the current problems in the sphere and future plans.

The Head of the Inclusive Education Development Office, Ekaterine Dgebuadze introduced the presentation.

As noted, the infrastructural problem is acute and the primary and urgent task is to ensure safety of the children and pedagogues especially in Schools N202 and 203.

According to M. Jashi, today inclusive education is the priority with already 7 thousand children involved. The number annually increases, though the problems remain in infrastructure, as well as about special pedagogues. The recommendations have been developed envisaging changes for professional development of the pedagogues.

“We try to do our best for the special educational institutions, for the children with special needs and their families. We strive to improve the condition of the children with special needs. Along with infrastructural problems, we shall maintain the pedagogues currently working on their enthusiasm. We shall regulate their salaries etc.”, - L. Gogichaishvili stated and asked for more financing in this sphere.

High quality inclusive education shall be accessible for all the children. This field needs particular support and joint efforts of the legislative, executive and municipal authorities.
