Meeting of Giorgi Khelashvili with Teachers from Regions with Ethnic Minorities

Media and Society 06 Oct 2022
Meeting of Giorgi Khelashvili with Teachers from Regions with Ethnic Minorities

The Information Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about NATO and the European Union within the framework of the project "Increasing Public Awareness and Resilience" funded by the United States Department of State, in cooperation with the Office of the Minister of State for Reconciliation and Equality, hold cultural-educational tours for young people and teachers living in regions densely populated by ethnic minorities in state agencies and embassies.

Within the framework of the project, teachers from densely populated regions with ethnic minorities met with the First Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Giorgi Khelashvili. The MP informed the teachers about the legislative and oversight activities of the Foreign Relations, EU Integration and Diaspora, and Caucasus Issues Committees. Giorgi Khelashvili spoke about the coordinated work of the committees and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of the laws and resolutions adopted by the Parliament. The discussion during the meeting also covered the goals of parliamentary diplomacy, issues of working with partner states' legislative bodies, and the significance of Georgia's top foreign policy priorities, including its integration into the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic Alliance, and the status of the democratic reforms implemented in this regard.

"We spoke with teachers from areas where there are ethnic minorities, and it was quite intriguing. They expressed interest in our country's potential as well as the procedures for Georgia's accession to NATO and the European Union. The conversation provides us optimism and the impression that Georgia's accession to Europe is not solely a decision of the political team, and our teachers and students, the next generation, are confident in Georgia's foreign policy and its prospects for the future. I am glad that we have continued to advance with the knowledge of foreign policy priorities, starting with the Georgian language, and it is important that the teachers living in the region inform and share this knowledge and experience with future generations", - Giorgi Khelashvili noted.

The meeting continued in the question-and-answer mode, where the teachers heard information from Giorgi Khelashvili on topics of their interest.
