The Legal Affairs Committee approved the Draft Law on Combating Corruption

The Legal Affairs Committee approved the Draft Law on Combating Corruption for the I reading.

According to Archil Gorduladze, Chair of the Committee, individuals convicted of financial and official misconduct shall be required to complete financial declarations for a period of 30 years as a preventive measure.

As he noted, the failure to do so shall be subject to a respective legal liability - administrative or criminal penalty.

“In addition to the preventive mechanisms applied to the executive authority, including those based on the cost-effective principle, law enforcement agencies take appropriate action in response to all facts that may indicate corruption. Consequently, it is imperative that Parliament also develop amendments to facilitate the curbing of corruption. The Prime Minister personally engaged in the development of the introduced Draft. The Government and the Georgian Dream are committed to curbing corruption and improving the country’s global ranking. This is not merely a goal to appear among the top three but a critical objective to prevent corruption from impeding economic activity and undermining the state”, - he noted.

The Draft is authored and initiated by the Faction “Georgian Dream”.
