Meeting of Dimitri Tskitishvili with Members of Lithuanian Sejm

Foreign Relations Committee 24 Sep 2019
Meeting of Dimitri Tskitishvili with Members of Lithuanian Sejm

Common challenges stemming from the disinformation, Russian propaganda, ways of their prevention, and sharing mutual experience in this regard as well as the future cooperation were the prevalent topics of the meeting between the First Deputy Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee and the members of the Lithuanian Sejm.

Dimitri Tskitishvili briefed his colleagues on the information obtained by the Thematic Inquiry Group of the Foreign Relations Committee on misinformation and propaganda.

In their turn, the guests spoke about their country's experience in this regard.

“The challenges seem to be similar for both countries. Russia's misinformation is a major threat to our countries and our cooperation in this area shall be fruitful. It is important for us to share experiences, visions and methods they employ in this regard. We need to concentrate on how things worked and what didn't work, how the disinformation process and tools evolved, and how to cope with these challenges.
During the meeting we also discussed the ways the state can combat Russian propaganda and misinformation without restricting freedom of speech and expression, how to be very cautious about interventions, what instruments can be referred and how to counteract these instruments and Russian propaganda in general", - Dimitri Tskitishvili stated.
