MPs Participating in 14th Local Economic Development Forum

The 14th Local Economic Development Forum is currently taking place in Tbilisi. The forum is attended by the Vice-Speaker of Parliament, Giorgi Kakhiani; the Chairman of the Healthcare and Social Issues Committee, Zaza Lominadze; the Chairman of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee, Beka Odisharia; and the First Deputy Chairman of the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee, Giorgi Chakvetadze. This annual forum is themed "Healthy City – Green, Ecologically Clean Environment, Flexible and Sustainable Urban Development".

The two-day forum features participants from legislative and executive authorities, Georgian and foreign experts from various fields, representatives of municipalities, academia, and the business sector.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze. The conference attendees were also welcomed by the First Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili, and the Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health, and Social Affairs, Mikheil Sarjveladze.

During the event, the following topics were discussed: healthy cities, the consumption and development of renewable energy, smart initiatives and superblocks, sustainable socio-economic development, healthy cities as a characteristic and indicator of sustainable tourism development, the development of eco-transport and green mobility, climate neutrality and disaster risk reduction, the importance of universal design in the development of inclusive tourism and architecture, circular economy for sustainable development, the importance of spatial planning in achieving sustainable development goals, green buildings and infrastructure, and more. As noted at the forum, all these contribute to the sustainable and long-term development of cities and the physical, mental, and social well-being of the population.
