Parliament Hosting Awarding Ceremony of Successful Diasporans

Chairman of Parliament 12 Sep 2023
Parliament Hosting Awarding Ceremony of Successful Diasporans

Organized by Beka Odisharia, the chairman of the Diaspora and Caucasus Affairs Committee, successful diasporans working abroad were recognized and awarded in the parliament.

During the event, Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, addressed the successful diaspora - "It is high time that we look at the diaspora as successful Georgians who maintain contact with Georgia and strengthen the country”, - the Speaker of the Parliament stated.

Shalva Papuashvili drew attention to the role of the Georgian Church abroad.

"Church is the place where Georgians have the opportunity to find each other and support each other. Sunday schools near the church have a great role. It is important to preserve the connection with the motherland, including linguistic, cultural, and spiritual", - Shalva Papuashvili added.

Beka Odisharia addressed the participants of the event.

According to him, it is important to appreciate the achievements of compatriots living abroad and to strengthen the Georgian diaspora by engaging in economic, political or public activities.

"Preparations are underway for an expanded forum where the focus will extend beyond awards. This forum aims to present business projects and opportunities for active involvement. Prominent government officials, including the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Parliament, and ministers, will personally introduce the possibilities developed by our government. This event is expected to be highly informative and serve as the starting point for your active engagement", - Beka Odisharia noted.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Konstantinidi spoke about the Ministry's role in relations with the Georgian diaspora.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to successful diaspora members who are actively involved in business in the United States of America and various European countries. The event was attended by members of Parliament, the Bishop of North America, Reverend Saba, and representatives of the Georgian diaspora.

The final award ceremony for successful immigrants will be held on September 14 at the Rustaveli National Theater. This awarding ceremony is organized by the Parliament, the Diaspora and Caucasus Affairs Committee, the head of the Georgian Diaspora House in New York, Ina Asanidze, and involves the participation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and sectoral agencies, as a traditional annual event.
