Standing Parliamentary Delegations 28 Feb 2024
The Foreign Relations Committee taking note of the Reports of the Parliamentary Delegations

The Committee heard the Reports of the Parliamentary Delegations. The Speaker and the Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), H.E. Shalva Papuashvili introduced information about the activity for the reporting period.

“The participation of Georgia in the multilateral formats is of high value as an excellent opportunity for the consideration of the global challenges, development of bilateral relations with various countries and the support of the non-recognition policy of the occupied regions of Georgia. The hereof formats are paramount since they serve as the venue for establishing the contacts with the Parliaments with hard geographical access”, - the Speaker stated.

According to him, the Delegation to the IPU participated in two assemblies and the Global Conference of the Young Parliamentarians during the reporting period. Simultaneously with the assembly, the Delegation held bilateral meetings with the Speakers of the Parliaments and the Chairs of the Committees.

Speaker Papuashvili informed the Committee about the participation of the Parliamentary Delegation to the ASEAN AIPA and the attendance at the 44th AIPA General Assembly.

“It is noteworthy that it is the first general assembly attended by the Parliamentary Delegation with the observer status”, - he stated.

Per his information, the Delegation also held bilateral meetings.

As the Chair of the Foreign Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze estimated, the more general assemblies Georgia attends with the observer status the better advantage it will mean for our country to promote the national interests not only in Europe and North America but in a wider world.

The Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.), Irakli Kadagishvili introduced the report on activity. According to him, the Delegation, during 2023, participated in the sittings of the I.A.O International Secretariat, enlarged sitting of the Committee Chairs and Rapporteurs, the 30th jubilee session of the I.A.O., the official meetings organized by the Assembly and held in the Parliament of Finland, and the sitting of the Committee on Amendments to the Rules of Procedure. T

he Committee heard the report on the activity of the Parliamentary Delegation to GUAM PA, introduced by the Head of the Delegation, David Matikashvili. The reporter accentuated the activities of the Delegation, including the 42th session of the Baltic Assembly dedicated to the consideration of the relations between the countries.
