The Ambassador of Hungary reports to the Foreign Relations Committee

The Ambassador of Hungary, H.E. Anna Mária Sikó reported to the Foreign Relations Committee.
“Anna Mária Sikó has dedicated four years to fostering Georgia-Hungary relations. During her tenure, bilateral relations have achieved unprecedented heights. Anna Mária Sikó stands as one of the most successful Ambassadors accredited to Georgia, having orchestrated and ensured numerous high-level visits to the country. Notably, she facilitated the signing of the Strategic Cooperation document with Hungary and convened meetings of the Governmental and Inter-State Commissions. Furthermore, we received unwavering support from Hungary throughout these years,” - Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Committee, expressed.
“I am resigning from my position, effective one week from today. While I will be leaving this beautiful country, I intend to remain a close friend of Georgia,” the diplomat concluded.
Her report encompassed the bilateral relationship and the foreign policy of Hungary. According to her, the first strategic partnership was signed in 2022 and bilateral relations have been enhancing ever since.
“We have held bilateral meetings between the Ministries. For the first time, we organised the inter-governmental summit in Georgia and signed 11 Memoranda of Understanding. We initiated various projects and made a decision to jointly ensure the economic development of our countries,” she declared.
The Ambassador reviewed the directions of agriculture, environmental protection, tourism, culture and other domains. “We aspire for Georgia to serve as a pivotal gateway, connecting the East, West, North, and South regions. Therefore, it is imperative that you prioritise your connectivity efforts to become an integral component of the corridor leading to the West,” she asserted.
Speaking of the Russia-Ukraine war, she noted that peace is the only solution.
“I concur with your assertion that we will not engage in any military interventions. I support your policy of refraining from conflicts,” she remarked, dwelling on the aid rendered by Hungary to Ukraine.
The diplomat, on behalf of her country, reaffirmed the unwavering support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and the EU integration of Georgia.
“The Georgian and Hungarian peoples share the common choice, and we also support the path selected by the Georgian Government,” she stated, expressing her hope that the new Ambassador will further strengthen the friendship and partnership between Hungary and Georgia.
