The Parliament hosts the MEPs from the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Defense and Security Subcommittee.
The first meeting was held in the EU Integration, Foreign Relations, and the Defense and Security Committees with an agenda on the security challenges. The parties discussed the Russian occupation and its consequences in Georgia; hybrid threats and challenges, as well as the solutions and the importance of the international support.
The parties touched upon the EU and NATO integration of Georgia and the respective reforms.
“Deriving from the situation in the region, the support of our European partners and the dialogue with them are of particular importance for us. We also attach the utmost importance to the progress of our EU relations”, - Maka Botchorishivli stated.
The parties discussed the new phase of the relations with the EU, including the questionnaire for Georgia for the obtainment of the status of a candidate member. The questionnaire will be sent today.
“Starting from today, Georgia enjoys an official recognition to discuss the granting of a status of a candidate. It is an important event in the history of Georgia and on our EU integration path and naturally, the support of our European partners in this process is paramount. EU integration is a complicated and long process requiring reforming in various directions. In 2014, we signed the Association Agreement to trigger this process and we keep successful fulfillment of the assumed commitments, which makes us optimistic in the relations with the EU”, - she added.
