Set-up of Working Group at Rules and Procedural Issues Committee on Enhancement of Parliamentary Oversight

At today's sitting, the Chairman of the Committee, Irakli Kadagishvili, dwelt on the precondition for the establishment of a working group and its composition.
"As you are aware, Georgia has received a twelve-point recommendation in relation to its candidacy for EU membership. With the assistance of pertinent committees and working groups, the Parliament is developing all twelve suggestions. It is crucial that we be inclusive when carrying out this work and try our best to involve all factions and political groups inside the Parliament, including non-attached MPs, as well as non-governmental organization representatives and other interested parties. We are creating this working group in regard to the parliamentary oversight mechanisms since several procedures for our committee have been defined from the perspective of parliamentary oversight”, - Irakli Kadagishvili stated.
According to him, after the entry into force of the new Rules of Procedure, about 30 control mechanisms were put into effect, which the Parliament can employ today.
"The parliamentary oversight is carried out through committees with the appropriate profile in many disciplines. Our work will be focused on topics that are directly related to parliamentary oversight mechanisms, which are connected to forms of reciprocal control and collaboration between the executive power and the legislature.
We focus primarily on matters like interpellation, questioning of a member of the Parliament, the annual report of the Prime Minister, the announcement of a government official during the plenary, ministerial hour, hearing of a member of the Georgian Government and other officials, thematic inquiry, required attendance at committee meetings, obligation to provide information to the committee, monitoring the application of normative acts, and performance of official duties", - Irakli Kadagishvili mentioned.
The Committee endorsed the establishment of a working group.
Irakli Kadagishvili also delivered a report on the supervision of the Rules of Procedure's separate mechanisms for parliamentary oversight during the meeting, which assesses the current usage of control mechanisms in accordance with the current rules. Additionally, it provides some recommendations while describing and analyzing the control management processes. The report was distributed to session attendees along with being published as a printed magazine.
