Tamar Taliashvili: High-quality education for our pupils should be guaranteed by the quality of textbooks, both in terms of content and form

Members of the Thematic Inquiry Group under the Education and Science Committee met with authors and publishers of school textbooks to discuss the content and form of the textbooks, dwell on challenges in ensuring high-quality education and hear the opinions of the participants in the grading process.

As the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee and the Head of the Thematic Inquiry Group, Tamar Taliashvili noted, school textbooks are the most important resource on the way to quality education.

"The Committee is conducting a thematic inquiry, which will examine the standard and accessibility of educational resources. A textbook goes through a significant review procedure before it is placed on a student's desk. We had a pretty serious discussion regarding this procedure today. It's critical that the participants feel at ease during the procedure. High-quality education for our pupils should be guaranteed by the quality of textbooks, both in terms of content and form. The rules for grading have undergone certain adjustments that will soon be reflected in the grading of textbooks. In the teaching-learning process, our schools have the option to employ materials other than textbooks with grades. The thematic inquiry is still ongoing, and following the meeting, documentation of the recommendations and comments made as a consequence of the research will be submitted to the appropriate agencies. It is crucial that we refine this procedure, identify areas for improvement, and recognize any additional difficulties", - Tamar Taliashvili stated.
