Zviad Kvachantiradze: “Touchezh Kat is still the envoy of Georgia to North Caucasus”

The National Library of Parliament hosted the exhibition of the Circassian artist, Touchezh Kat open by the Chair of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee, Zivad Kvachantiradze.

Circassian public figure and writer visits Georgia with invitation of the Committee. The exhibition exposed 55 paintings and the works on the poems by Georgian writers and poets – Vazha-Pshavela, Alexander Kazbegi and Akaki Tsereteli.

“Our guest is one of the eminent persons of Circassian nation with the greatest authority amongst North Caucasus peoples. He is the public figure, writer and artist with close links with Georgia for decades. With his visit to Georgia, the Parliament decided to celebrate his merit in enhancement of friendly relations between Circassian and Georgian people. We wanted to thus express our gratitude to him for not forgetting Georgia”, - he stated and spoke about merit of T. Kat: “Touchezh Kat has organic link with Georgia not only because he was educated in Georgia. We will always remember that he has walked through the Circassian villages during Abkhazia war and not a single Circassian went to this war. Mr. Kat is still the envoy of Georgia to North Caucasus”.

He thanked T. Kat for his merit for Georgia. The graphic works created decades ago were delivered to Tbilisi A. Kutateladze Academy of Arts. “In 1974 I graduated from the Academy of Arts. All my pedagogues were Georgian and I feel gratitude and obligation towards them. I delivered 105 works to the Academy. Today, the exhibition exposes the illustrations of Georgian classic literature – poems of Vazha-Pshavela, including blood revenge dedicated to Circassian theme. You can see the synthesis of Circassian folk motifs. I would like to thank Georgian Parliament and the Committee for organizing this event”, - T. Kat stated.

His works are recognized with the state awards and honorary titles. He graduated Tbilisi Academy of Arts in 1974 and his pedagogue was Georgian famous artist, Sergo Kobuladze.

The visit also includes the series of activities with participation of: Academy of Arts; LEPL Circassian Culture Center; TSU Scientific Institute of Caucasian Studies; Cultural Relations Center – Caucasian House and Union of Georgian Artists.
